The basic concepts of sustainable architecture could be said to have their origins in vernacular architecture; over the centuries they have not always been at the center of design interests, but they are today. More than a trend, sustainable architecture is a necessity in the fight against climate change. It is a necessity in both new projects and rehabilitation interventions, sustainable architecture covers many areas related to energy efficiency, the use of materials, the well-being of its occupants and much more.
In Madrid it is possible to see highly complex projects that have obtained LEED certification, such as Castellana 81, the first building on Paseo de la Castellana to achieve Platinum level, or Ciudad BBVA, Nuevo Campus IESE and Torre Caleido, buildings with the LEED Gold seal.
However, at Reggio College a low-budget strategy has been developed to reduce the building's environmental footprint based on several design principles such as radically reducing the total amount of material used for its construction, reducing it by almost 50%.

In addition to being a benchmark of modular architecture, the Hexagons Pavilion is one of the milestones of Madrid's 20th century architecture, the second half of which constitutes a singular moment in terms of buildings in Casa de Campo, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in the category of Historic Site in 2010.
